Tanzania’s Sister Martha is likened to Mother Teresa by friends. Born Martha Mganga, this 50-year-old albino has spent the last 30 years educating Tanzanians about the plight of PWA – persons with albinism. She goes to rural communities, where albino deaths are most common, to counter witch doctor beliefs that albino body parts and organs mixed with magic potions can bring wealth and success. In a country where there’s serious ignorance toward albinos, Sister Martha tries to fight the stigma associated with people who only lack skin pigmentation. This story aired Saturday, Oct. 19 on DW WorldLink. To listen to the podcast, click here.
